Great Game January 5, 2009 Mr. Gr Leeburn After reading a number of positive reviews and negative I decided to go ahead and purchase the game. 1st impressions were so so , i found it difficult enough to putt and gauge iron distances etc. After a few days playing however I really got into the game and its got to be the best golfing game for the wii. Graphics are sharp sound and gameplay great, (apart from Sam Torrances annoying voice!:) and the online mode is seriously good fun either playing head to head or in a 4 ball. Overall im very impressed the putting i find fine it just takes a while to get used to and i can see why people finding it frustrating. Someone suggested pushing up a bit, on up hill putts and this works well. Only slight annoyance is connection failures on the EA servers online mode, but after a few go's this normally works ok. Overall a great golf game!
Great game December 18, 2008 G. WILLIAMS (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have no idea what people are talking about when they say putting is hard on this game...if anything it can get too easy. I am starting to turn off various "aids" to make life harder. I have played TW on several different consoles and versions and I have to say this is the best. There are some stunning and devious courses, a nice progression in difficulty (turning off the assistance as you go) and they've really made good use of the wiimote. Sure it took all of 2 hours to work out how to do the swing properly but its completely rewarding. If you liked wii golf on wi sports this is the game you are looking for.
PUTTING IS BROKEN!!! December 13, 2008 Mr. J. Caley (England) The swinging and chipping are all great. It sadly goes wrong when you reach the green. The putting is simply awfull and doesnt guage power correctly which renders the game almost unplayable. Gutted : (
A bit broken in places November 24, 2008 Heward Kay (Hampshire UK) This is a good attempt at a golf franchise for the Wii, but it is far from perfect. Lots of modes, and good attention to character customisation cannot save it from being a bit disappointing. It becomes clear as you progress, that EA got to the point where they felt "this'll do for now, lets get it on the shelves before we have to start work on Tiger Woods PGA tour 10". Putting is a major weak point, and the Wiimote is not sensitive enough to cope with small movements. All the putt previews and help indicators won't stop you from smacking the ball across the other side of the green, again and again. A major flaw comes when you score a hole-in-one. Your character runs around the green celebrating like a lunatic, the crowd goes wild, a hole in one sign flashes up, and your fellow players congratulate you on a great shot. However, when you watch the replay, the ball bounces over the hole, and you are left to play the ball from the other side of the green. It's as if the game punishes you for wanting to relive your greatest moment. At least I had witnesses to this bug. Like most Wii games, it is best played with a crowd, then at least everybody can join in with the frustration and moaning
Good but not great November 17, 2008 adanield (Glasgow United Kingdom) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Tiger Woods 09 is basically a decent all round game. It feels as though you are playing golf. The graphics (for the Wii) are pretty good. You can create your own golfer, jump straight into the game and play as you try to improve your own created player. Where the game does fall down is in the putting. Yes it can be very frustrating, too many people have commented on it for it not to be the case. The constant changing of putter lengths, the continous lipping out or even worse going straight over the hole turning a round of 63 into a 68 can become very annoying, but unfortunately that is just the way it is and yes you can get used to it. All in all a good game that could have, should have been better.
