I have to confess I am 51, I have just borowed My 13 year old daughters copy of this to read over the holiday. I found it truley absorbing. It is the only book so far to have really captured my daughters imagination (she read the whole series over the holiday). I loved it!

4 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations   January 7, 2009
Hardeep (wolverhampton)
This is an interesting debut by Stephenie Meyer, and I admit that having heard it was a "teen romance" I was pleasantly surprised when I found that this novel did not fit my frame of reference for that genre.

This is essentially a novel of how the two main protagonists fall in love but with the added spice of vampirism. The novel starts with the return of Isabella Swan to the place of her birth, Forks, Washington State to live with her father. Her initial dread and expectations of infinite boredom associated with this location, are quickly dispelled by the entrance of the enigmatic Edward Cullen. What follows is the confusion of their initial interactions to their understanding, to the main adventure of the book.

I believe that many have complained the movie "Twilight" concentrated all too heavily on the adventure aspect of the story when it is only a short part of the novel. Having read it I understand why, as in my opinion it is the way that Isabella and Edward fall in love that makes this novel so impressive. The beautiful way in which Meyer describes the many nuances in expression, the depth of affection, the uncertainly and the embarrassment so attendant when a person falls in love for the very first time.

It is as if she agonized for hours about the perfect adjective for each exact moment when their was dialogue or proximity between Edwards and Bella (as she more commonly known in the book). I say this because, I would not generally choose to read a novel described as "romantic" , but I admit to really enjoying this, probably because of the great skill with which Meyer writes about such emotions, really quite excellent.

If I had any complaints about the novel, it was that the book seemed to end a little bit like it had been rushed, the major denouement - the action scene - as it were, wasn't even in the novel (not sure if that is down to the editor or the author). It is a book about vampires, so I shouldn't really complain about it not being realistic enough, but there are few holes even in the vampire logic.

It is however an amazingly successful debut novel, so it would be churlish to complain when this author has made a potentially trite subject matter so very original and interesting. I believe that most that pick it up will enjoy it thoroughly.

what can i say i am still on a high , from the moment edwaed cullen smolthered his way into bellas heart i was hooked, so much better than a typical teen romantic novel, i am 29 and every page had me hooked, the novel has humour, supsense secrets and romance ( my husband thought i was crazy hearing me alternatly gasp cuckle and swoon), i often found myself going back a few pages to enjoy the words again straight away !!! my favorite self scarifcing romantic heroes will draw you into their passionate story.... i just finished and i am waiting till i can rush to waterstones first thing tommrrow to buy the next 3!!!
enjoy i certainly will be doing again and again!!!

5 out of 5 stars My all-time favourite book   January 6, 2009
Daydreamer (UK)
I really loved this book. It had me hooked from the first page and i read the entire saga in a matter of days, stopping only to eat and catch a few hours sleep. I was pretty sleep deprived by the end of the week but it was well worth it!

Although all four books in the series are fantastic, Twilight is definitely my favourite. I read a lot but have never been caught up in a story quite as intensely as this before now. I loved every character and completely fell in love with Forks. Edward Cullen is breathtaking in every sense, and i feel quite empty now that i have finished the saga. I think that i should point out that I am 27 years of age, and not 13...

Desperate for more, i read the rough draft of Midnight Sun on Stephenie Meyer's website and sincerely hope that she finishes writing it. It really does show a different side to the story, and is not just a re-hashing of the Twilight events as some say.

I am now on my second read through the saga, and have just bought The Host by Stephenie Meyer. She truly is a gifted writer and really managed to bring her characters to life. Twilight is one of the best books i will ever read.
