The Locust Horde is back and only you and your squad of elite soldiers stand between them and the death of every human being on the planet Sera. In Gears of War 2, entire cities are being destroyed in single attacks, and you must take the fight to the Locusts by battling them in their own underground lairs.
You can play the whole of story mode with a friend
The Boomer enemies are back in many different varieties
The game’s ethos of “destroyed beauty” is still in full effect
Shoot the Ticker enemies before they explode in your face

The bestselling third-person shooter is back: bigger, better, and gorier than ever before. But you can't just blast your way through it--this game requires far more tactics and cunning than your usual mindless shooter. A refined cover system means you can use the enemy as “meat shields” as well as hide behind the fully destructible scenery.

The graphics are looking better than ever, and the game is purposefully more bloody and violent than before. The story and characterisation has also been improved, making this an action game sequel with brains as well as brawn.

Key Features
  • Brothers in arms: Have a friend join or leave your single player game whenever you want, and even battle together on different difficultly levels.
  • Evolving enemies: You finally get a chance to take down the giant Brumak enemies, as well as even larger monsters and new creatures, such as the explosive Ticker.
  • Practise makes perfect: Practice the multiplayer mode on your own with computer controlled “bots”--then use the new matchmaking system to find a real opponent of the same skill level.
  • Chainsaw massacre: If you loved the chainsaw bayonet in the original game, you now can duel computer or human opponents with gaming’s messiest weapon attachment.
  • Hordes of options: Try the new five-player Horde mode, where you all face off against an unending wave of enemies, or any of the seven other multiplayer modes.

2 out of 5 stars GOW2   November 20, 2008

Like many other people i can only give this game a 2 overall, yes the campain is awesome but the online mulitplayer really does suck. Major let down tbh, too much hype into this game its really same as the 1st just an expansion to the series. Wouldn't reccommend a buy if your wanting this game for online play. But if you are wanting an online game with hours of endless fun then i suggest having a look at call of duty.

2 out of 5 stars Epic, What have you done?   November 20, 2008

Original GOW1 veteren tells the truth, OK they put a few new characters and some new weapons. But online multiplayer has changed for the worst, it takes upto half an hour to get into a 5 round game with no real choice as to which game type and what map you wanna play. EPIC SHOULD BRING BACK GOW1 LOBBY SYSTEM. Another dissapointment was the useless shotgun which is made weaker for some reason., and a lancer chainsaw that does not stop revving even with a point blank shottie bullet to the face.
managed to play a few multiplayer games but got fed up of getting chaisawed even after youve shot your enemy six times.
other probles include very bad lag and not being able to quit a match once started.
EPIC usually update their games and hopefully they fix all these issues but until then buy it used.

Wow, simply wow. I've just finished it and it had me hooked from beginning to end. XBox crashed only once during the several days I've played it. Game keeps on going and going, I'm very happy with how long it is. Can't wait for GoW3 now! ;-)

4 out of 5 stars Gears of war 2 is a must have   November 19, 2008

Gears of war 2 is a must have for all xbox 360 owners, if you've played the first game and loved it then u wont be dissipointed in the 2nd, the story to begin with is full of more story thet the first one lacked, while still keeping the if it moves kill it theme gears 2 adds alot more to the characters we get to know why their fighting, what drives them and some of the questions left by the first game like what's the deal with Marcus' dad are answered in the second(though still abit vague).

The multiplayer like the first gears is where this game shines the brightest, not only do we the gamers still have the infamous modes of warzone, execution and ofcourse annex but gears 2 delivers 4 new game modes. The first and my favorite mode is horde which is where 5 people team up online to tackle 50 waves of locust which become more and more difficult as the waves increase, the highlight of this is that it takes all the fighting of the campaign but losses the story its just killing locust. The second mode submission is capture the flag with a twist the flag is a person armed with a shotgun shooting both teams, players will need to down this person and drag them to a particular point on the map inorder to win the round.

The game itself offers a much better achievement tracking system than the first as achievement progress will pop up on screen to indicate how close you are from getting the achievement, which is nice as you can see how many kills you've got. seriously 2.0 although very very very time consuming can now be obtained in any mode online or offline so no worries hey.

For me personnaly the bot matches are where this game separates itself from the first players can now play all their favorite game modes offline using bots which can be set to different difficulties for players preferences, one of the main faults of the first game was that if your internet connection failed and you'd completed the campaign way tooooooo many times then you found urself putting in another game but now i find that bot matches keep me clinging to this game alot more than the first.

Overall i'd give this game 9/10 and the only reason why im not giving it 10/10 (which is tempting) is the fact that the online party system seems to take a very long time to find players then find a game and its not just mine my friends have the same problem, but simply this game is a must for 360 owners and an envy for none 360 owners

3 out of 5 stars Bloodier, more brutal, but better?   November 18, 2008

Im the first to admit that Gears of War is one of the biggest titles on the xbox 360. But it is far from perfect. Its up the top with its excessive gore and over the top violence. Its got some of the 360s favourite and, at times, colourful characters. Yet no one Ive spoken to about this game seems to feel its perfect. And I agree.
What did we like about the first Gears? Chainsawing locust in half, seeing Fenix kick major arse and the overall hardnut feel the game comes with. Thats kept in Gears 2 and is even improved upon. A few new, head-busting characters. And youll need new enemies with that. Check. New explosive weapons and this time, a wider range of gameplay. But, as with the first game, each level gets repetitive after a while. Even blowing apart Locust skulls with a shotgun can get a tad monotonous after a while. This is not a game you play for the story too. Im still deciding how I feel about that. It didnt seem to grip me like other games might and at times it felt totally outrageous. That and some really extreme cut scenes and action sequences make it, to me, the Die Hard 4.0 of gaming.
The online in the first was never up there with Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3. And this time EPIC have taken a step back. Sure, this time you can start a party which you couldnt do outside of player games in the last one. But it seems to take forever to find opponents which becomes annoying very easily. Plus the shotgun now seems ineffective at any range. Use of the Lancer assault rifle has sky rocketed and that will aggravate many players who like to shotgun duel. And, of course, with more Lancering comes more chainsawing. And I found that annoys many players in the first and second game.
Horde is quite fun. Fighting waves of Locust with 4 friends has its laughs but when you reach wave 50 it kind of wears out. A few new online gametypes have been added but nothing saves it from its backward step.
Overall Gears 2 is a very good buy. Those who own the first simply have to buy this. Violence is the same as ever. Maybe even more brutal than the first. The characters still leave the Locust horde crying for their Queen and the campaign will bring some fun. Online is average. After a while I found myself going back to number one. A fun game that will boost your Gamerscore between 400-500.
