its good but... May 14, 2008 Jasper i've became quite bored ith the whole MoH series ever since medal of honour frontline, it just seemed a bit samey, with only some recent versions, such as pacific assualt to save me from completely dissowning it. now we have airbourne, and im really not sure, some of the music is a direct copy of pacific assualt, which is ok, but it does sound like ea are scraping the barrel a bit. The airbourne elements are good, and the openings to the level are by far the best bit of the game. but after the cutscene you jump (or get pushed) out of the plane and thats when it starts going downhill, you normally have a "safe" zone to aim for, miss that and you'll be in big trouble when 12 germans surround you and shoot nine thousand rounds into your body before you even land, which if you get it wrong, means you have to put up with another nine thousand before you can shoot back. The weapons are wierd, if you have any sense you'd ditch the aliied weapons like the thompson which has about as accuracy as a donkey throwing apples, and go for the only decent all round gun in the game (which just happens to be german) it does get better when you get some upgrades, from shooting people, no special achievements like headshots, just kill enough people and you unlock all manner of goodies, which im not sure is a good or bad thing. its not really a challenge, is it? now the REALLY bad part, allied AI is appaling, they will charge when they're heavily outnumbered, run infront of you when your onto a string of headshots, and just generally get in the way. Enemy AI is different, its good and challenging, in the fact that it doesnt matter where you are or who else is attacking, 9/10 times they'll shoot at you, leaving your dumb ai friends to charge unapposed and you stuck behind a sandbag waiting for them to run out of ammo, or you develope a teleportation device so you can actually move, because as soon as you peek your head out from cover they will make you into a human cheese grater. This said it does make it challenging, trying to find the 7 germans that can shoot you, through a building while standing a mile away with their teloscopic eyesite, but it isnt exactly fair is it. gameplay is good, play length is very bad, i'd reccommend putting the difficulty one above what you normally play it at, so hard instead of normal, just so the length of the game is extended. it has some replayability trying to find all the special drop sites, and get all the achievements, which in turn are ridiculously easy to pick up (i got 11 in the first 3 levels [4 just on the training one]) its one of those games thats like hitting your head against the wall, although this way you can hit your head against the wall with a thompson :) ps. i have to admit it but if you want a good fps, buy call of duty 4
Xbox 360 must have May 2, 2008 P. Walmsley (Chester, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Airbourne is a brilliant all round game. the graphics are superb. The guns are realistic and the story is smooth and believable. there are no complaints about this game in my book. maybe the best in the series and one of the best games on xbox 360 this year. A great game and a must have for gamers this year.
Best war game ever March 17, 2008 Ady B (U.K.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Medal of Honour Airbourne is one of the few games I have purchased over the past 10 yrs that you I didnt get fed up with playing.I like how the weapons are very authentic and realistic, and the ways you upgrade them as you play the game, the various scenes are brilliant too. You can tell a lot of time and effort has gone into all the small things that make a good game great and this is definately one of the GREATS.!Once youve completed it at the beginner stage try it at the expert level and experience the game at its full potential.Yes its hard, but we wouldnt pay all this money for a game we could complete in one easy go.ENJOY!!!!!
Great ideas, sometimes poorly implemented. March 11, 2008 P. Jones (Salford, Manchester) I've always been a MOH fan and with COD shifting over to a modern day setting, it was EA's chance to reclaim its spot as the number 1 WWII game. They have certaintly put a lot of thought into it, the parachuting is a brilliant idea and looks great, however once you do a couple of levels you will notice it's pretty samey and unless you land in the safe zone there is absolutely NO CHANCE of escaping the Germans. The weapon levelling up is another newer idea which looks great on paper but put into practice is fairly average, mainly because the game is too short, it means that getting your rifle etc as good as possible is too easy. Graphically the game is ok, nothing special but it does the job, the parachuting at the start of the game is especially pleasing, however once you get down below it becomes laughable in comparison to Ghost Recon or COD 2,3 and 4. My main gripe with the game is both the enemy and friendly AI. It's just no good. Your allies either leave you all alone to fight the Nazis or they are all over the place, but not doing much. As with the Germans, they are just never ending unless you advance, so you can't simply pick off them stragically, you HAVE to go in all guns blazing. Overall I would suggest you rent this one, however if come the next installment these niggly bugs have been fixed then Airborne 2 could be a must buy.
Airborne is a belter March 10, 2008 Mr. J. Griffin 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed this game, to be fair I have only just got an xbox 360 elite and my first game was call of duty 4, I found cod 4 short and not that taxing rather the developers worked on effect and not actual gameplay, anyway I played Airborne and found it was good value for money plenty to shoot at good graphics when you learn the way the game plays you can stalk and shoot make advances stalk and shoot more...... waiting for Brothers in Arms now.......
