stunningly beautiful , but lacking the substance to match September 20, 2008 C. Timms (Oxford, England) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Straight away you find yourself in an environment which is stunning and beautifully crafted. such a pity that after the novelty of the graphics there is very little story to carry it through, the lack of interaction with other people (except for the ones who want to Kill you) , the sometimes mundane tasks and the ease (you don't die, you re-spawn, leaving every enemy keeping the damage you dealt it) I would recommend it if you want to see the stunningly beautiful design but to expect too much from it is a mistake that you do not want to make
spectacular September 14, 2008 D. M. Lee I haven't enjoyed a FPS this much since half life. The graphics are excellent. The scenery is just spectacular and the characters are superb. I did find a strange affinity with the psychotic artist Cohen though.
Great...until the end August 25, 2008 Vincent Hannah UK (UK) When I first started playing Bioshock I wasn't as amazed as I'd been expecting. Sure the graphics are stunning, and the controls work very nicely, and the voice work is perhaps the best I've ever come across. But then I picked it up again a few days later, and suddenly found I couldn't stop playing the game without wanting more. This is a very addictive game. The graphics are A+, and for me the level of difficulty is worth a mention. It's not super-hard if you don't want it to be, and I didn't find myself having to replay many bits of the game at all. Also the controls are a joy to use, and many of the weapons are superb. I particularly enjoyed freezing the splicers, and then shooting them to pieces with the shotgun. Do you rescue or harvest the little sisters? That was an interesting dilemma the first few times, but got a little tiresome after a while. There was also a bit too much running around finding things, although having hints and a map was very handy. And then there's the ending...I won't spoil it, but boy does it suck. Well it did for me. After 2 fairly lame levels which didn't feel in keeping with the rest of the game, there was a pretty quick video which also didn't totally make sense, and then...nothing. Just the home screen to start the game all over again. I've since read that even the developer didn't like the ending. So in summary, a very good FPS, which is a joy to play once you get into it, and up to around 80% of the way into the game is great fun, spooky, atmospheric and memorable in so many ways. Pity the last 20% dragged and had such a sucky ending. Definitely worth 4 stars, and worth a purchase.
Just Buy It! August 25, 2008 Gezmund (Wales (Europe)) This game is so good, after i completed it i just had to start it again
shockingly good! August 25, 2008 P. Brind (wolverhampton,uk) This one of the best shooters ever made. The levels and characters are well designed. It has the best storyline in any game. The weapons are good with variety. The graphics are very good. It has a very creepy atmosphere and is scary in some places. It combines rpg elements, like upgrading your weapon, with shooting, puzzles and horror. One of the best games ever.
