Under the Hood of the PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That's approximately 320 times more calculations per second than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience.

Blu-Ray is the New Way
Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity--combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card--promises mind-blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. The PS3 will also support CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software update version 2.20 and up includes BD Live support. With this you can now play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) and you can also connect to the Internet while playing discs that support this format so that you can obtain additional features. Features that are available vary depending on the software in use.

The Dualshock 3 Rumble Wireless Controller
The Dualshock 3 Rumble wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 system provides the most intuitive game play experience with pressure sensors in each action button and the inclusion of the highly sensitive SIXAXIS motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion is more realistic when the user feels the rumble right in the palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user’s body. Dualshock 3 wireless controller utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and the controller’s USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller through the PlayStation 3 system at anytime.

Online
Sony has stated that the PlayStation 3 will have similar online connectivity and services as the next generation of Xbox Live. Calling it "an always on, always connected device," SCEI's chief technical officer Masa Chatani said the PlayStation 3 would be constantly in touch with a "PlayStation World" network "fundamentally based on community, communication commerce, and content." Technically, the infrastructure is there to make that connection. The PS3 supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T Ethernet, as well as IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking protocols.

5 out of 5 stars great investment   January 6, 2009
Cindy Ortega (NY, USA)
i bought this ps3 for my boyfriend and was hesitant in getting the 40GB over the newer 80 or 120GB this christmas, but considering that he loves metal gear solid i think it was the better pick. he doesnt really download games or use the ps3 to store music or movies, so GB size is not a big deal for him. The blue ray player is a big plus. although the system isnt black, its still a nice metal gray color. to be honest i havent played mgs4 so i cant really comment on it, but from what my boyfriend says its an awesome game. I would recommend getting the mortal kombat vs dc world, its so much fun! i got blisters from playing it so much!

2 out of 5 stars Stick with the PS2   January 5, 2009
Eugene Presciti
Stick with your PS2. This release is just Sony's way of saying "screw you" and thanks for your loyalty and another $600+. This release was truly marketed by a bunch of corporate, greedy *&^%$#@#$$ that were merely looking for profitability, not what's best for the customer. It's not compatible with PS2 games (what kind of crap is that). It's extremely limited with it's usb ports. The controllers only charge one at a time and only when the machine is turned on and the only way to truly get out of it what SONY wanted you to get out of it is to spend buckoos of additional money on additonal add-ons or upgrades. I understand the corporate world and the need to make a profit, but SONY - You're really pushing the envelope here. I'm very disappointed and (*&&^% off. Anybody wanting a PS3, keep an eye out on ebay, cause they're gonna be selling dirt cheap here very soon. If you're serious about gaming, stick with the PS2...It's cheaper, more compatible with everything, more games are available...it's just a no-brainer, common-sense decision. You know what they say about hind-site...

What can I say that has not been already written. The PS3 is simply the best console on the market yet and the Metal Gear series is one of the best (if not the best)to ever come for us gamers, being this last installment probably the best in the series. If you are considering owning a PS3, don't anymore... just go out and get one ASAP. You won't regret it. Amazon, great seller, fast shipping, very well packed.
