Good choice for 1st lap top January 8, 2009 Cindy B. Boozer (South Carolina) This was my first lap top I have purchased. I wanted a wireless lap top that was easy to use at table or in my lap as needed. It has been great so far, I have had it only a month. I use it mainly for quick research and can shop while sitting with my family in the den instead of being in the office on the desk top computer.
great deal January 1, 2009 Mary P. Young I purchased this as a gift for my daughter for Christmas. I think it was a very good deal - it is high quality and there are no problems that I know of! Our packaging was perfect - no problems with that. It's a very sleek, good-looking laptop that really performs!
Great Laptop... December 23, 2008 M. Helle (Minnesota) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
After doing quite a bit of research I finally decided on this laptop, it has what I need for school and work. It has plenty of power and after wiping Home Premium and putting Vista Ultimate that my school provides for virtually free it was even faster. If you aren't doing any demanding gaming or hard graphical editing then you cant go wrong. Honestly this laptop is perfect, the price and performance ratio is great. The only reason I gave this Laptop only 4 and not 5 stars is because it was packaged horridly, basically the Laptop box was put in a much larger box with no padding and was allowed to flop all over the place. I booted up the laptop after letting it warm up (quite cold here) and it had 1 stuck pixel (red) which is quite annoying to have, I tried to fix it with varying methods (software and pixel massage, etc etc) Its not a huge deal and its to frustrating to return a laptop for one pixel when you need the data on it so much, maybe it will go away eventually and maybe I will fix it but who knows. I normally buy anything with an LCD screen in the store because of this exact reason, buyer beware of horrible shipping, not sure if this is Amazons fault but in any case it makes no difference to me. Maybe only one other complaint would be that the design is highly susceptible to smudges from fingerprints or otherwise.
Great Inexpensive Computer November 19, 2008 voiceoverthewall.com (United States) 52 out of 52 found this review helpful
I purchased this as a gift for my mother. I am pleasantly surprised with this laptop, but I expected to be. Toshiba is one of three PC laptop brands that I would buy. This is based on past experience. The first thing I noticed was how light this laptop is. Compared to other current model laptops, it may or may not be considered light by some. Compared to the laptop it replaced, it is a featherweight. For the most part, it is very sturdy and feels solid in your hands. I would like a little more stiffness in the keyboard response though. I am not a soft typist and I tend to pound on the keyboard. The trackpad is flush with the surface of the handrests, which takes some getting used to. It is hard to find without looking first. After a few uses, I plugged in my USB mouse, which is more compfortable anyway. My biggest complaint is the number of trial apps that this laptop came with. I understand that the reason for the inexpensive price is because of all the additional software that comes pre-installed. I can live with this, as I uninstalled most of it, opting for competing products (such as the virus scanning software, firewall, etc). There were 23 icons on my desktop when I turned this laptop on the first time! Minor gripes aside, this laptop is fast, includes plenty of space, and looks sleek and refined. It gets a Vista rating of 3.0 according to Microsoft. I am primarily a Mac user. With that in mind, I can say that Vista is not so bad. It is not worth the effort to bring this laptop home just to remove Vista and install XP. Just be sure to turn off the disorienting Aero mouse pointer theme (leave the rest of Aero turned on) and update all software (including third party products such as Adobe Reader). Vista can be quite pleasing to the eyes after a couple of uses. I would buy this laptop again without question.
