| | Still the best man for the job View Image | Continued Engrossing Storyline View Image | | | Under the Hood of the PlayStation 3 The PlayStation 3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That's approximately 320 times more calculations per second than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience.
Blu-Ray is the New Way Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity--combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card--promises mind-blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. The PS3 will also support CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software update version 2.20 and up includes BD Live support. With this you can now play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) and you can also connect to the Internet while playing discs that support this format so that you can obtain additional features. Features that are available vary depending on the software in use.
The Dualshock 3 Rumble Wireless Controller The Dualshock 3 Rumble wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 system provides the most intuitive game play experience with pressure sensors in each action button and the inclusion of the highly sensitive SIXAXIS motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion is more realistic when the user feels the rumble right in the palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user’s body. Dualshock 3 wireless controller utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and the controller’s USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller through the PlayStation 3 system at anytime.
Online Sony has stated that the PlayStation 3 will have similar online connectivity and services as the next generation of Xbox Live. Calling it "an always on, always connected device," SCEI's chief technical officer Masa Chatani said the PlayStation 3 would be constantly in touch with a "PlayStation World" network "fundamentally based on community, communication commerce, and content." Technically, the infrastructure is there to make that connection. The PS3 supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T Ethernet, as well as IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking protocols. |

Great Bundle Here!!!!!! December 4, 2008 Cesar Polanco (Miami, FL USA) Wow, the grey color is just awesome. I don't mind the 40GB, cause i ordered on ebay a 160GB seagate hard drive and exchange it. So now my grey Ps3 is 160GB capacity. It look so much nicer then the black one, i sold my black Ps3 to get this one. So go ahead and buy this bundle, you won't regreat it.....
MGS4 is a great game, PS3 stil best for Blu-ray and IT'S A 40 GIG NOT 80! November 27, 2008 Oscar Sebastian Reyes I don't mind having the smaller HD size, I'm not going to be using much of it anyway, mainly got this because I wanted a blu-ray player but It's always a nice feature to be able to play games too. The "new" finish on the PS3 is not that noticeable or different, You won't really notice a difference IMO. The MGS4 Version you get with this is a collectors addition so I guess thats the real buy for some...I just liked to have a game come with it. the ps3 also says "metal gear edition" or something along those lines on the bottom of the PS3. So any MGS4 fanatics would probably love this. Basically It's a PS3 with a smaller HD size to give you a MGS4 Collectors edition version PS3. the PS3 in general is a great buy for blu-ray and gaming. It's not expensive for what it is, just more than what maybe some need. For those who can play blu-ray and like to game, it has all the right features for a respectable price.
Great Bundle November 25, 2008 Andrew R. Benzer (Washington DC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a preface, I am a lifelong gamer but have not owned a console since my N64 many years ago. I got by in college gaming on my laptop or using the various consoles my roommates had (Xbox, PS2). Now that I am gainfully employed I have been lusting after a next gen console since their release a couple years ago. I was on the fence for the past year on which console to buy, and from my experiences in college I was partial to the Xbox. Their initial glut of games and lower cost had me leaning toward the 360. Am I ever glad that I waited and got this bundle. I have been playing Fallout 3, Little Big Planet, Rock Band 2 and the new Need for Speed and all of them are AWESOME. I bought this bundle more for the gray finish than Metal Gear Solid, and the game was simply a huge bonus. I took the recommendation of A Dent (see his wonderful review of this product) and upgraded my hard drive first thing. Memory is no longer an issue, and the hard drive was now $40 less than I expected to pay for it. Score! Do note that if you upgrade out the box as I did you will need to download the latest system software to get your PS3 up and running. There are very clear instructions in the manual that comes with your PS3, and how to videos give you a good idea of how simple the process is. I do wish there were more than the 2 USB ports, but simply buy a multi-port adapter and plug it in. I purchased this Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Hub, White and it works flawlessly - simply connect it to your PS3 and it works. The power comes through the USB so no need to use the AC adapter that comes with it. I suggest buying here at Amazon as I picked one up at the local Best Buy and it cost $10 more. I have also watched Wall-E, Iron Man and a couple other flicks on the Blu Ray hooked to my 42 inch plasma, and I could not be happier with this purchase. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!
Wow great upgrade over my 60GB launch PS3 November 20, 2008 ha-evolution (ECWI) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have one of the original 60GB PS3 systems but always wanted the gunmetal gray. Unfortunately the crazy price this was originally selling for through Konami was not justified based on the specs. The amazon price is a great deal - love the gunmetal color. The fact that it doesn't retain fingerprints is a real bonus. The biggest upgrade in my opinion is that this PS3 system is so much quieter than my old 60GB. The fan is nearly silent whereas my old system would ramp up to a level that was VERY audible in quiet parts of movies. The 40GB was not a drawback at all in my opinion. Just swap out for a bigger one - its easy to do and the drives are not that expensive. I already had a 160GB 7200rpm drive that was waiting to go. Since I already had MGS4 game I didn't need the LE version, but since it is going for big $ on auction that will further offset the cost. I don't care about being able to play PS2 games cause they look like bad on the big screen anyway. The memory card slots were used a total of 1 times on my old system so I don't think I'll miss this either.
"Hagane" Gunmetal Finish - SUPERB November 20, 2008 HDN84 (Philadelphia, PA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This PS3 is amazing. The "Hagane" gunmetal finish 40GB PS3 is awsome compared to the greasy fingerprint and fine dust SUPER MAGNET piano black 80GB. I had the black PS3 awhile ago when it first came out and I was so annoyed everytime I looked at it I had to grab the microfiber rag and wipe it clean of the fine dust. After wipping it so much it would leave visible scratches that just diminish the look of the PS3. Now that problem is gone...the grey finish looks so elegant and unique that I had to show it off and place it right next to the lcd in the living room. So in conclusion grab this while its available the game that it comes with is worth more than the measly 40GB that you are giving up compared to the piano black 80GB.
