Under the Hood of the PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That's approximately 320 times more calculations per second than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience.

Blu-Ray is the New Way
Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity--combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card--promises mind-blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. The PS3 will also support CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software update version 2.20 and up includes BD Live support. With this you can now play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) and you can also connect to the Internet while playing discs that support this format so that you can obtain additional features. Features that are available vary depending on the software in use.

The Dualshock 3 Rumble Wireless Controller
The Dualshock 3 Rumble wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 system provides the most intuitive game play experience with pressure sensors in each action button and the inclusion of the highly sensitive SIXAXIS motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion is more realistic when the user feels the rumble right in the palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user’s body. Dualshock 3 wireless controller utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and the controller’s USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller through the PlayStation 3 system at anytime.

Online
Sony has stated that the PlayStation 3 will have similar online connectivity and services as the next generation of Xbox Live. Calling it "an always on, always connected device," SCEI's chief technical officer Masa Chatani said the PlayStation 3 would be constantly in touch with a "PlayStation World" network "fundamentally based on community, communication commerce, and content." Technically, the infrastructure is there to make that connection. The PS3 supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T Ethernet, as well as IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking protocols.

5 out of 5 stars The best game ever made!!!!!!!!!!!   January 9, 2009
Fabian Gonzalez (North Brunswick, NJ USA)
I finally got the PS3!!!! I got the Metal Gear Solid 4 Gray Kojima Bundle. The color is pretty cool, but it definitely needs more memory, so that is something I need to invest in the near future. Plus it came with Metal gear 4 and let me tell you as a huge MG fan it is the best game ever made and I dare someone to tell me different. Overall I'm very happy, and as an old school gamer it definitely beats wasting time on a wii.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Media Goddess   January 9, 2009
Falarius (USA)
Initially I was hesitant to spend the $400.00 for the system then coupled with the mirrored cost of a 22 inch HdTv but now that i've had the time to spend playing amazing games such as little big planet MGS4 and a more personal favorite Armoredcore fouranswer I'm not only pleased with it as a gaming sysem but also as a media hub for all my pictues movies and even my mail. This review for example was generated using the very sysem inquestion. Alll in all I love the system in both how it functions as welll as looks, it may not be as small as my (Brawl box) Wii but the PS3 has both Nintendo and microsoft cooked in the terms of Sony's device that in this reviewers opinion is nothing less than the best (and sexiest) console on the market today.

5 out of 5 stars very pleased   January 8, 2009

I'm just your ordinary 42 year old guy that thinks MGS4 is a great game. For Amazon to offer a PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Gray Kojima Bundle for $399, it was too good to pass up as a Christmas present for myself. I really like the limited edition case and controller color match both my audio setup and my TV. The 40GB HDD was easily swapped with a Western Digital Scorpio 320 GB 2.5-inch Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD3200BEVT. I followed the PS3 support manual and had no troubles. And for less than $10 I got a Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra Mini Hub F5U407.
PS2 compatibility was not on my list of needs so I won't drop the rating a star like some folks have.

4 out of 5 stars nice product - price could be better   January 7, 2009

5 out of 5 stars great investment   January 6, 2009
Cindy Ortega (NY, USA)
i bought this ps3 for my boyfriend and was hesitant in getting the 40GB over the newer 80 or 120GB this christmas, but considering that he loves metal gear solid i think it was the better pick. he doesnt really download games or use the ps3 to store music or movies, so GB size is not a big deal for him. The blue ray player is a big plus. although the system isnt black, its still a nice metal gray color. to be honest i havent played mgs4 so i cant really comment on it, but from what my boyfriend says its an awesome game. I would recommend getting the mortal kombat vs dc world, its so much fun! i got blisters from playing it so much!
