Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero's signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines advanced wireless instruments with online and offline gameplay modes including online Band Career and 8-player "Battle of the Bands," which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online. The game features a Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock ?n’ roll anthems.

Be the Next Great Songwriter

Music Studio lets players express their musical creativity by giving them access to a full complement of tools to create digital music from scratch utilizing the guitar controller and drum kit. Players can create their tracks and then play them in-game or share the recordings with the entire Guitar Hero community through GHTunes. GHTunes allows other gamers from around the world to download and play the community's original tracks. Available to Xbox 360 gamers is Line 6's guitar tone technology, enabling them to use amps, cabs, and effects from the Line 6 POD.

Create the Band

Budding rock stars can live out their rock ?n’ roll fantasies by playing either a single instrument or any combination of instruments, in addition to the full band experience. When rocking as part of a band, up to four players can jam together in quickplay or as they progress through a career. Both band and single-player careers feature non-linear progression giving artists the option to change difficulty and instruments with a variety of different gigs available at any time.

Never Jam Solo Again

Virtual musicians in need of band mates can take their careers online forming worldwide ensembles so no rock star ever has to play a gig solo. Plus, GHWT adds a "Battle of the Bands" modes, which allows eight players to join online and challenge each other band-to-band to establish global supremacy.

Customize Everything

The character creator allows gamers to create a rock star with style as unique as their own. Absolute customization from the clothes, to the facial and body structure, to the tattoos and accessories, players are encouraged to unleash their inner rock legend. The Rock Star Creator doesn't just allow players to build the ultimate rock god; the in-depth creators include the ability to customize guitars, drums and microphones. Adding yet another layer of personalization, gamers can create custom logos for their instruments, band, or album covers.

A Set List for the Ages

The Guitar Hero World Tour set list is comprised entirely of master recordings from some of the greatest artists of all-time including Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles, and Sublime. There are over 85 tracks, plus frequent downloadable singles and track packs. In addition to the killer track list, the game will feature rock icons such as Hayley Williams of Paramore and Travis Barker of +44 and blink-182.

3 out of 5 stars Too Short, Too Diverse, Too Difficult   January 1, 2009
Alex Hutchinson (Carver, MA)
World Tour is more like a five city peruse. Unlike Rock Band 2 which will lead you so deep into the music underground that you never return, the New Guitar Hero is so short you can complete it in three nights. As for the music, the mix is incredible but perhaps too much so. There are scores of songs you will never have heard of and others that you'd rather not hear again. The diversity is swallowed up by this unusal swamp of rift heavy tunes. The increase in difficulty is meant for the hard core players but it kills the fun for everyone else. I was happy to see the absence of a tamborine on the vocals but the singing is a little less obvious as to how it works.

As for the storyline, you get to travel from one unique stage to another and are constantly surprised by the stunning visuals. Lead singers and guitarists are unlocked easily as are the mega songs they are known for. I only wish the storyline was longer and more involved.

The music studio was a great idea but it is so complicated that I can only imagine a small number of people taking full advantage of it. Of those who do we might have a future rocker in the making. It will be fun to find out. I just hate having to wait another full year for the fun to continue.

1 out of 5 stars Does not work with RB2 Guitar   December 31, 2008

I checked out this game at our local library and it's a good thing I did because the RB2 Guitar I have does not work with this game and there is no settings to change to make it work. If anyone else has a solution for this issue please post it here. Thanks!

4 out of 5 stars The name is GUITAR HERO   December 31, 2008
The Mandrew (The Dub-V)
...and THAT is what they should stick to doing. After having spent some time with this game, I'm not gonna claim that it doesnt do a solid job of emulating Rock Band. Its just that what most of us fell in love with in the previous incarnations of Guitar Hero was the guitar playing itself.

My main gripe are the tracks. While there are many, many great songs on the list, they arent ones I am particularly psyched about playing on guitar. "Hey Man Nice Shot" has about as much variation on guitar as "Ice Ice Baby". Its a great song, but its geared more towards the Rock Band ensemble rather than the axe itself. I also miss those weird indie tracks from GH2 that really exposed you to some new, and very cool guitar-based bands. Now its all big-time tracks, whereas back in the day, those weird indie songs were probably the only ones they could afford to get licensed. Remember The Sword and Avenged Sevenfold?

I think they should have tweaked the GUITAR playing experience more, added more depth to that experience and focused on guitar heavy songs only, rather than try to keep up with the Joneses, those Joneses being the Rock Band franchise.

Still, there are the great rock moments in this game which are full of humor, and some great tracks to jam on, especially the creepy Tool set which is a flat-out marathon for your fret hand.

I liked the game, dont get me wrong...I just wouldve bought it regardless of the drums and mike and such and enjoyed it a lot more with focus on guitar.

3 out of 5 stars Nice game   December 26, 2008

Well I think personally, this is a nice game... the songs selection was the best ever. better graphics, nice sound... Same UI (that would be something to be changed or upgraded).
I'm happy with this product

3 out of 5 stars DOES NOT WORK WITH STANDARD XBOX CONTROLLER.   December 22, 2008

Great game, didn't know that you HAD to have a guitar to play it. That kind of pisses me off.

Other than that it has a great musical selection and the gameplay is terrific.
