It was easier to replace this fan than I thought. A bit scary to open your Xbox but once your warranty is over, why not, right?
I had a 360 Elite where the DVD drive died; it made grinding noises for a while then refused to open. From the day I bought the system the drive was crazy loud. I ended up returning it to Microsoft for repair even though the unit was out of warranty. The M$ repair service was quick, they ended up just replacing my box with what I assume was a refurb. The new DVD drive was quiet, but the new fans were amazingly noisy, really shockly noisy where it almost seemed like I was on a hidden camera TV show or something.
So I traded in an absurdly loud drive for a ridiculously loud set of fans. I was trying so hard to be a happy camper too.
I use the 360 as a Media Center connected device, and with Netflix being so wonderful as well, I figured it's time to replace those horrific stock fans since my warranty is shot.
The new fans are a tiny bit quieter than the fans I had originally, and a fair amount quieter than the joke fans that came on my refurbed unit. The green coloring may be interesting to you if you are the type of person who puts flame or "no fear" stickers on your car, or if you are too young to drive.
I saw a different review that claimed the new fans made about 90% of the noise of the original fans. That seems about right. To restate, you will reduce your noise by about 10%, and add a questionable green glow.
Anything to make those fans quieter is worth it to me. Come on Microsoft, hop on the clue bus and work on the fan noise for your next version of this otherwise fantastic console.

I live in an apartment with no air conditioning, so I needed a way for my Xbox 360 not to die on me. This fan was just the right solution. It moves a substaintial amount more air than the factory fan does, and it is a tad quieter. The green glow is cool too when the lights are low. The taking apart of the Xbox is not for novices, [..]. If you've taken apart a few computers in your time, you'll have to problem.

This is a great addition to an xbox 360, the fan is super quite and the green led looks Awesome coming out of the back. I've also got the chameleon case for my 360 and the two go great together. I recommend it for those of you who want to customize your 360.
p.s. buying the 360 opening tool makes things so much easier!

This fan is not quieter! I went through all of this, ordering, paying, waiting, opening the xbox! And I think it might be louder. I did not get the one that has a throttle on it but I don't think it would have mattered. It's just as loud, now it's just brighter! Waste of time and money. I think this first reviewer and most on the internet work for talismoon. This is just a Cheap Chinese POS. I may seriously open it back up and reinstall the origional and sell this on ebay, so look out for it.

The Whisper fan is a great OEM replacement, offering superior and physical benefits. When it comes to cooling the 360, the fan does offer improved airflow and the lights look pretty sharp. Highly recommended!
